Established in 1973, Birnam Excavating Ltd. is a privately owned, family run company engaged in the sewer, watermain, roadbuilding and general contracting industry. Our work involves upgrading key infrastructure under the ground in addition to providing quality surface works, as well as mechanical systems, process works, water and wastewater and general infrastructure projects.
As a Site Supervisor at Birnam, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily construction activities on the project site. You will play a vital role in ensuring the project is executed efficiently, on time, within budget, and up to the highest quality standards. Your strong leadership and organizational skills will be essential in maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review project drawings and specifications to fully understand project scope, client goals, expectations, and resources for each phase of the project.
- Delegate and assign weekly tasks/scope of work to all Foreman.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop team members by setting clear performance expectations, providing regular feedback, and identifying professional growth opportunities through training and development programs.
- Manage client/engineer/inspector/public interaction and promote positive relationships.
- Grant approval for Foremen’s material requests, ensuring that necessary materials and supplies are readily available on-site.
- Responsible for on-site safety standards by upholding regulations and ensuring compliance with procedures.
- Schedule subcontractors and suppliers, to maintain the project timeline.
- Organize all on-site activities, monitor project performance and progress, collaborate with Foremen to discuss plans, changes, and advancements, and allocate resources as necessary.
- Participate in preconstruction, construction and close out meetings as well as weekly operations meetings providing current status updates.
- Create specific weekly deliverable plan vs actual delivered plan and submit to Project Manager weekly.
- Track quantities, change orders, review all Foreman paperwork. Track all payment quantities for Project Managers and submit to Project Manager weekly.
- Resolve work site issues quickly and effectively.
- Assist in controlling project costs and keeping expenditures within budget constraints.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful completion of a post secondary education program such as construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Site Supervisor or a similar role in the Sewer/Watermain industry.
- Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and procedures.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and other documents essential to the project.
