Overview

Are you a multitasker? Is it easy for you to coordinate plans, check in with team members, and manage complex tasks from start to finish? You may love working as a Site Superintendent! In this role, you’ll work closely with engineers and subcontractors to keep projects on schedule.

Skills You’ll Need

  • Leadership, team management, communication, and collaboration
  • Build according to drawings, specifications, and other documentation
  • The ability to perform heavy manual labour yourself, when the job requires
  • Problem-solving skills, solution-oriented mindset, and a high degree of organization

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and manage on-site construction crews
  • Coordinate and oversee all work on the jobsite
  • Monitor and ensure on-site safety compliance, cleanliness, and order
  • Maintain records, including daily field reports, field orders, and requests for information (RFIs)
  • Attend production meetings and collaborate with other leaders
  • Follow project timeline, safety regulations, and budgetary requirements

Role Requirements

To become a Site Superintendent, you’ll need a high school diploma, at a minimum. Some roles require a college diploma in construction technology or a university degree in civil engineering.

Become an Expert

If necessary, consider furthering your education through a multi-year degree program or a certification from the Canadian Construction Association (CCA).
