Job Description: A water and sewer mainline excavator required to work with ground personnel in the excavation of trenches to proper depth/grade, to ensure pipe can be installed at the correct line and grade. Operator needs to be aware of proper rigging of pipe, manhole sections, etc., and ensure safe work procedures are followed during the lowering of materials into the excavation.
Main Duties:
• Ensure trenches are excavated to the proper depth, grade and side slopes.
• Follow directions of ground crew regarding bulk excavating, fine grading, hoisting, and gravel placement.
• Cut grade efficiently to allow for quick placement of bedding material, minimizing exposure time in wet conditions and ensuring production is on schedule.
• Ensure all trench work meets OHSA requirements, including trench boxes, slide-rails, shafts, etc.
• Required to perform daily pre-operational inspection of equipment, including regular maintenance to ensure proper and safe functioning.
• Identifying defective parts of malfunctioning equipment components.
• Follow proper safety guidelines and procedures including reporting any potentially unsafe work practices.
• Ability to work in collaboration with the Foreman, Site Supervisors, and Health and Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents and/or near misses on the worksite to ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the TACC Construction Ltd.’s Health and Safety Program.
• Review a daily schedule and follow specific instructions for excavating.
• Capable of diligently focusing on attention to safety, communication, stamina, accuracy, teamwork, and time management.
Qualifications:
Must haves:
• Thorough knowledge and experience operating a 390 excavator or equivalent
• Experience in sewer and watermain projects
• Be able to accurately judge distance and slopes
• Good health and physical condition
• Sound organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail
• Works well independently and collaboratively on small or large-scale projects
• Is reliable, responsible, and trustworthy
Good to have:
• In-depth knowledge and practice of OHSA safety standards and regulations
