Description

Job Description: A crane operator’s job is to safely lift, move, position, and place materials and equipment using specialized machinery. They also perform pre-operational inspections, calculate crane capacities, and ensure compliance with safety laws and guidelines.

Main Duties:

• Operating crawler crane to precisely lift, move, position or place equipment and materials in a trench for a sewer and watermain crew. Lifts include, but are not limited to, sewer and watermain pipes, manhole sections, chambers, stone hoppers, trench boxes, etc.
• Listening and carrying out instructions given from ground crew.
• Performing pre-operational inspection and calculating crane capacities using known weights to prepare for rigging and hoisting.
• Inspecting machinery and equipment to make sure they function properly.
• Following safety guidelines and protocols, including keeping an up to date logbook
• Reviewing a daily schedule to ensure production can be met without compromising safety.
• Identifying defective parts on malfunctioning cranes and following proper safety guidelines and procedures, reporting any potentially unsafe practices.

Qualifications:

• MUST have a Trade certification 339A License
• A valid driver’s G license, own a vehicle, and willing to commute to and from different work site locations
• In-depth knowledge and practice of OHSA safety standards and precautions
• Good health and physical condition
• Organizational skills and attention to detail
• Works well independently and collaboratively on small or large-scale projects
• Experience in sewer and watermain projects would be an asset
• Ability to commute/relocate – reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
• Minimum 1 year crane experience (required)
