Job Description: The Sewer and Watermain Labourer performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties required for the installation, maintenance and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
Main Duties:
Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of sewers, manholes, watermains, hydrants, valves, valve chambers, and all other related appurtenances
Hand-digging required at times to expose utilities, sewers, watermains, etc.
Work under the direction of the Pipelayer and Pipelayer Helper or other designated Foremen/Supervisors
Performs responsible functions within a complex and technical environment involving the exercise of considerable judgment in the field.
Assist other crew members, including operators, in all typical day-to-day duties.
Perform related tasks as required.
Qualifications:
Must display consistency in being punctual, responsible, and dependable
Must support a safe work culture including the incorporation of safe work practices in daily work activities
Must be physically fit and able to work effectively with others
Must be able to work independently without regular supervision in safety sensitive environments
Must be comfortable working in all outdoor environments for extended periods of time as well as occasionally working around live sanitary sewers when required
Required to safely operate power tools and small equipment necessary for all related sewer and watermain works (plate tampers, jumping jacks, pumps, stone hoppers, etc.)
Must be comfortable working within confined and restricted spaces in both water and wastewater environments
Strong communication skills and related field experience would be considered an asset
