PIPELAYER HELPER / CEMENT FINISHER

POSITION
We are seeking an experienced Pipelayer Helper / Cement Finisher to support underground utility installation and concrete finishing operations. The ideal candidate has strong hands on experience in sewer, storm, and watermain construction, proficiency with concrete finishing tools, and the ability to work safely in trench environments.

JOB DUTIES
• Install sewer, storm, and watermain pipes (PVC, ductile iron, concrete, HDPE, etc.) in accordance with project specifications
• Set grade, line, and elevation using lasers, levels, and other surveying tools
• Lay pipe, connect joints, and verify proper alignment, slope and fit
• Assist with trench excavation, shoring, and backfilling to support safe and efficient installation
• Install maintenance holes, catch basins, valves, hydrants, and fittings
• Perform cement finishing, including parging and benching of maintenance holes and pipe structures
• Finish concrete surfaces using hand and power tools such as trowels and floats
• Form, pour, and finish concrete collars, slabs, curbs, and associated components
• Inspect pipes and connections to identify defects and ensure watertight installation
• Coordinate with equipment operators and laborers to maintain workflow and meet production targets
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company and industry standards
• Follow all safety procedures, including confined space protocols and trench safety regulations

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCTATION
• No formal education required
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as a pipelayer or underground utility worker
• Strong knowledge of sewer, storm, and watermain installation methods
• Familiarity with lasers, levels, and standard hand tools used in underground utility work
• Proficiency with concrete finishing tools and equipment
• Ability to identify and correct surface defects during concrete finishing
• Strong physical ability to lift, bend, kneel, and work in trench environments
• Solid understanding of construction safety practices and safe work procedures
• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
• Team oriented with strong communication and coordination skills

TRAINING AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• LiUNA Local 183 Union Membership (in good standing) or eligibility for membership
• Completion of MOL 4‑Step Health and Safety Awareness Training
• Confined Space Entry Training
• Working at Heights Certification
• Hoisting and Rigging Training
• WHMIS 2015 certification for hazardous materials awareness
• Valid Ontario Driver’s License for travel to and between job sites
