Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Pipelayer to join our team in the civil water and wastewater sector. As a Local 183 Union Worker, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground piping systems, including stormwater, sanitary, and watermain infrastructure. You will work as part of a crew under the direction of a Superintendent and Foreman, ensuring the safe and efficient completion of pipeline installations on various construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and lay pipes for water, sewer, and stormwater drainage systems according to project specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and project drawings to ensure accurate installation.
- Measure, cut, and level pipes using hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment.
- Ensure proper alignment and grade of pipes using lasers, transits, and levels.
- Connect pipe sections using various joining methods, including mechanical joints, couplings, and gasketed fittings.
- Perform trenching, shoring, and backfilling operations in compliance with safety regulations.
- Work closely with equipment operators and laborers to complete tasks efficiently.
- Conduct inspections and quality checks to confirm pipe integrity and leak-free connections.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations, including working in confined spaces when necessary.
- Assist in site preparation, including excavation and ground compaction.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a pipelayer in the civil construction industry, preferably in water and wastewater projects.
- Membership in LIUNA Local 183 or eligibility to join the union.
- Knowledge of watermain, storm, and sanitary sewer installations, including bedding and compaction requirements.
- Ability to operate and use construction tools such as pipe lasers, saws, and compactors.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety regulations, including OHSA and trench safety practices.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including heavy lifting, working in trenches, and exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Valid G-Class Driver’s License (DZ or AZ license is an asset).
- Confined Space Training, Working at Heights, and WHMIS certification (preferred but not mandatory).
