Sewer and Watermain Labourer
Job Description: The Sewer and Watermain Labourer performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties required for the installation, maintenance and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
Main Duties:
• Assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of sewers, manholes, watermains, hydrants, valves, valve chambers, and all other related appurtenances
• Hand-digging required at times to expose utilities, sewers, watermains, etc.
• Work under the direction of the Pipelayer and Pipelayer Helper or other designated Foremen/Supervisors
• Performs responsible functions within a complex and technical environment involving the exercise of considerable judgment in the field.
• Assist other crew members, including operators, in all typical day-to-day duties.
• Perform related tasks as required.
Qualifications:
• Must display consistency in being punctual, responsible, and dependable
• Must support a safe work culture including the incorporation of safe work practices in daily work activities
• Must be physically fit and able to work effectively with others
• Must be able to work independently without regular supervision in safety sensitive environments
• Must be comfortable working in all outdoor environments for extended periods of time as well as occasionally working around live sanitary sewers when required
• Required to safely operate power tools and small equipment necessary for all related sewer and watermain works (plate tampers, jumping jacks, pumps, stone hoppers, etc.)
• Must be comfortable working within confined and restricted spaces in both water and wastewater environments
• Strong communication skills and related field experience would be considered an asset
