  • Develop engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts or sketches
  • Prepare construction specifications, cost and materials estimates, project schedules, and reports
  • Supervise data collection (conduct field surveys, inspections, and technical investigations)
  • Oversee or personally carry out the inspection and testing of construction materials

How To Get There

To become a Civil Engineering Technologist, you’ll need to meet the following requirements.

  • Complete a three-year program in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field
  • Engineering/Applied Science Technologists and Technicians may be required for some positions

Get Educated

Choose a program for Civil Engineering Technology. You’ll learn everything you need to know about project scheduling, supervision, design, and more. Usually, these programs range from two to three years in length. If you’re interested in Civil Engineering, you’ll want to enroll in a four-year Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) program.
